Naciones Unidas aprobó el levantamiento del bloqueo a Cuba
Cuba consiguió este martes otro contundente respaldo en la ONU al lograr una masiva votación contra el bloqueo impuesto por Estados Unidos desde 1962, con una pérdida para la isla de cerca de 975 mil millones de dólares, y la exigencia del levantamiento de la medida.
La abrumadora mayoría casi repite los números del año pasado: fueron 186 votos a favor del proyecto de Cuba, 2 en contra y 3 abstenciones.
Los dos votos contrarios, Estados Unidos e Israel, y las tres abstenciones, Islas Marshall, Micronesia y Palau, son las mismas del año pasado. Aunque la ONU tiene ahora un país más (193 en vez de 192), en la sesión de este martes no participaron ni Suecia ni Libia.
La medida votada -que significa dos décadas consecutivas de condenas- llama a los miembros del organismo internacional a cumplir con sus obligaciones bajo la Carta de la ONU y la ley internacional, que reafirman la libertad de comercio y navegación.
El texto votado, titulado “Necesidad de poner fin al bloqueo económico, comercial y financiero impuesto por los Estados Unidos de América contra Cuba”, reclama el respeto estricto de los principios de la Carta de la ONU, entre ellos la igualdad soberana de los Estados, la no intervención y no injerencia en sus asuntos internos y la libertad de comercio y navegación internacionales.
