Nueva York legalizó el matrimonio entre personas del mismo sexo
Mediante la firma del gobernador del estado, Andrew Cuomo, Nueva York se convirtió en el sexto de Estados Unidos en permitir legalmente el matrimonio entre personas del mismo sexo.
Esto fue luego de que la medida fuera aprobada en el senado por un escaso margen: 33 votos a favor y 29 en contra.
“Somos líderes y nos unimos a otros estados orgullosos que reconocen a nuestras familias; la batalla seguirá ahora en otros estados”, afirmó el senador demócrata Thomas Duane.
Ese partido, a través del gobernador Cuomo, promovió la medida que en una primera instancia fue aprobada en la cámara de diputados, donde tenían mayoría.
Sin embargo, en el Senado, el partido republicano contaba con mayor cantidad de bancas.
